![]() There's not enough content to interest me for longer - and that's much more important to me than what the price point is. Compared to Star Realms and its huge content library, this is a pretty dinky digital edition. But after playing through the Thandar campaign, I was sure I hadn't actually gotten the full download because there weren't any more campaigns! Which is how I found this thread. Because I'm a big digital Star Realms player, and they were offering "half price for the whole base set!" this week, I was pleased, because I didn't want to get sucked into the little Free-to-play game, I wanted to play a more expanded game. ![]() ![]() They have to make money somehow and they're doing it in a way that has both the consumers interest and their own. Stop making a mountain out of a molehill. ![]() It's like damned if you do, damned if you don't. Other company's strong arm you to spend hundreds upon thousands of dollars and you got OP here complaining about 10 bucks like they can barely afford the keyboard they're typing on. Originally posted by Snake:There is no free game, it's more of a timed demo.Ĭompared to most other games asking for 10 bucks is like a Saint asking for water. I would have gladly paid not 10 but 20 or even 30 dollars if the game actually contained, you know, the expanded physical content that's already out there, but when you get no new mechanics or market cards or ancestries or boss decks or multiplayer options for your 10 dollars, it really comes off as a money-grabbing scummy move and arm-twisting that gives you 3 new classes and the ability to actually. The so-called "free game" already contains all the market cards you can get in the paid version, the advertised "Welcome to Thandar" campaign is just manually tweaked "vs AI" battles, not the specialized campaigns sold in the physical game, with their own cool mechanics and new cards. It's literally you paying to be able to continue playing and get access to 3 more character classes. The worst part about this is that the paid version doesn't contain anything enticing or worthwhile - the campaign decks and bosses of the physical game aren't there, the boss decks aren't there, there's no boss vs boss, even though it would have been a breeze to implement, there's no coop vs the unique bosses with their own decks, there's no proper 3+ people multiplayer, the expansion cards for the market deck aren't there, nor are the ancestries for the players. The game simply isn't free to play at all, because you're hard-forced to pay when your character hits level 4, you can't even keep using the capped character to play. This is one of the scummiest and most pointless "free to play" models I've seen in a while. Keep deleting your characters, making new ones and once you hit level 4 on those, you have to delete them again. So essentially if you want to play the game free, you need to. ![]() Nope, you can't even select that char for games, there is a prompt telling you to buy the "full game" (if you can call if that) and clicking "Play for free" does nothing, just pings you back to the char select menu. I got a character to level 4, now sure, don't let me level up further, but let me play that character, capped at 4. The "free to play" game becomes really "pay to play" less than 2 hours in. There is no free game, it's more of a timed demo. ![]()
